The Jersey City Arts High School Program is a college preparatory conservatory established in 1981. JCArts continues to be a nationally recognized scholarship program. The Jersey City Arts High School Program thrives by understanding its responsibility to enable gifted high school students in the areas of visual arts, theater arts, instrumental music, and vocal music to attain college acceptance and scholarships. The vocal music component is for students who have an interest in pursuing careers as vocalists. Classes maintain a very high standard of performance and combine a physical and physiological understanding of the voice with the various tools needed to pursue vocal performance at the college level and beyond. These tools include ear training, music theory, and lyrical and poetic comprehension. Activities include choir rehearsals, voice lessons, instruction in music history and theory, and field trips. Our students train to be prepared for college while enjoying meaningful performances in Jersey City, the East Coast, and beyond. Students can expect to work with guest composers, take master classes with collegiate faculty, attend professional-level performances, and experience workshops tailored to furthering their musical development and careers. The Jersey City Arts High School Program is an honors-level college preparatory experience. Our students are responsible for training in a choir, solo music, music theory, sight-singing, and music history. We strive to provide students with a well-rounded musical experience, including songs in multiple languages and from various genres and periods. Some of our graduates have received scholarships from prestigious institutions for vocal performance.
